PULMONARY REHABILITATION
Increasingly, pulmonary rehabilitation is becoming more recognized as critically important in improving the overall health in patients with chronic heart and lung diseases. Through a partership between Duke University, several private medical foundations, and private industry, we have put together one of the finest rehabilitation facilities and comprehensive rehab programs in the country at the Duke Center for Living. We encourage our patients to undergo a tailored 3-week supervised program that caters to all types of heart and lung diseases. The program includes cardiac and muscle training, nutritional education, and interactive education on the optimal use of medical devices. The staff includes full-time physical and occupational therapists, exercise physiologists, pulmonologists, cardiologists, and respiratory therapists. Not only do we believe that this rehab programs is important in the general health and overall well-being of our patients, we consider it vital to the success of our institute's care of patients with chronic lung diseases and pre- and post-lung transplant program.
